Manchester United showed on Thursday they had finished the signing of Portugal midfielder Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon.

The 25-12 months-old has signed a five-and-a-1/2 yr settlement at Old Trafford with an option to expand for a similarly year.

The long-expected deal, with an initial price of around £47 million ($61.2 million), became finalised after Fernandes, who has 19 international caps, agreed personal terms and handed a medical.

"We have been tracking Bruno for lots months and each person here has been tremendously impressed with all his attributes and what he will deliver to this team," said United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

"Most importantly he's a amazing person with a incredible character and his leadership characteristics are clear for all to see."

Fernandes stated he become overjoyed to be becoming a member of the club, who are fifth within the Premier League table.

"My love of Manchester United really started after I used to observe Cristiano Ronaldo play and ever considering the fact that then I were a massive fan of this super club," Fernandes explained.

"For me, to now play for Manchester United feels incredible.

"I have worked difficult to get to this second and I can promise the fans that I will give the whole lot for the badge to help convey us more fulfillment and trophies."

Fernandes will bolster United's midfield ranks. Solskjaer has been short of numbers in that region because the departures of Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera, even as injuries to Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay have exacerbated the problem.

Fernandes has a popularity as a goalscoring, attacking midfielder who can perform centrally or out wide. He also can be deployed defensively.
